Just a Few Quotes About Love

I spent a while thinking about what specifically I wanted to talk about in this newsletter. There's so much to say about self-love, relationships with family and friends, and a slew of other subtopics that all seem equally as important.

Instead of trying to pin down an idea, I decided to share some of my favorite quotes about love, friendship, and self-love! Some are sickly sweet, some are funny, and all should be used on your loved ones:

  • “It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.” – Andre Gide

  • “Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.” – Vincent van Gogh

  • “Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin, as self-neglecting.” – William Shakespeare

  • “I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

  • ”Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood.” – Oscar Wilde

  • “Life is the flower for which love is the honey.” – Victor Hugo

  • “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu

  • “Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

  • “Love is being stupid together.” – Paul Valery

  • “Love is something sent from heaven to worry the hell out of you.” – Dolly Parton

  • “I love you more than coffee, but please don’t make me prove it.” – Elizabeth Evans

  • "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." – Emily Brontë

  • "The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves." – Victor Hugo

  • "Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time." – Maya Angelou

  • “There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves; it is not my nature.” – Jane Austen

  • “How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.” – Rupi Kaur

  • “You alone are enough, you have nothing to prove to anybody.” – Dr. Maya Angelou

  • “You carry so much love in your heart. Give some to yourself.” – R.Z.

  • “If you don’t know what you’re here to do, then just do some good.” – Dr. Maya Angelou

  • “The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.” – Elisabeth Foley

  • "Nobody has ever measured, even poets, how much a heart can hold." – Zelda Fitzgerald

  • "The giving of love is an education in itself." – Eleanor Roosevelt

  • "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever." – Alfred Tennyson

  • "We are shaped and fashioned by what we love." — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I do think Oscar Wilde makes the most sense here. Which ones were your favorite, or do you have other quotes about love in mind? I’m interested to know! Happy Valentine’s day to those who celebrate! No matter who else you love, remember to show yourself some love too.
